Years ago my grandparents bought an apartement in Puerto De La Cruz in the North of Tenerife. It's quieter that Los Americas, a tourist area, and Puerto is full of culture. Some of the best memories of my childhood where in Tenerife. I used to go with my mum and my grandparents, and everything about those times were perfect. We would go down to the swimming pool and we would spend hours there. Swimming, playing and eating toasties. I think both my family and I would reminisce over the amazing times we have spent there.
When I am feeling low, I would dream about going back to this beautiful place. I have found that as soon as you step out in the sunshine you feel instantly better. Even in England, it makes me feel that little bit better. When I last went to Tenerife, I remember waking up with the sun (which was around 8am) and instantly I will make a coffee and then sit outside with my book and enjoy the sunshine without as much of the heat. When I was growing up, like I said before I would go with my whole family, and then when I got to about 7 It would just be me and my mum. We would leave two days before my birthday, and then spend most of the summer holidays there, which was some of the happiest moments in my life. Then when I started work, I would go and meet my grandparents when they were out there and then I would spend a week or two with them, and then finally 2 years ago my husband and I decided to go together. I really enjoyed that holiday because I got to show Shane all the amazing places and things to do in Puerto.
I thought I would tell you some of my favourite things to do in Tenerife. It really benefits me to talk about things like this, and I hope that maybe it will give you an insight into my life, and the things that make me happy.
- Waking up in the morning to gorgeous sunshine and just sitting outside for an hour or two, reading my book and soaking up the sunshine
- Looking out at the sea- I find this so relaxing. My husband and I would get and ice-cream or frozen yogurt and sit on the wall by the sea at night and I loved just sitting and listening to the waves crashing against the rocks and it would just make me feel so calm and at east
- The amazing food that was available in Tenerife! Some of my favourite dishes are things I have had while on holiday in Tenerife
- Seeing family friends for a drink in the evening and catching up. I have a couple that are my grandparents best friends, and to me they are almost like second grandparents to me.
- Going swimming. I love to swim, and it is the only time where I find I have no pain, and I just find it very relaxing to almost feel weightless in the water.
- Going to Loro Parque. I will do a post soon all about this amazing zoo, and the experiences I have had there.
- Having a milkshake at a beautiful cafe near the seafront. This has been a staple for my holiday ever since I was little, and every year the owner remembers who I am. Which is another reason why it feels more like home.
- The friends I have made over the years. Meeting up for drinks or to go to the pool or the beach.
- Coming back to the apartment in the evening, and sitting outside in the cool air and having a drink before bed.
I really love this place, and I would recommend it to anyone who is thinking of getting a way for a relaxing and cultural holiday. There is loads of hotels and places to stay and things to do. And I would, without a doubt, suggest staying in the North of Tenerife than the South. If you want a place where you can go out to loads of clubs, and everyone speaks English. Then the South is perfect. But I love the culture and the greenery in the North. But obviously, I am a little biased.
I really hope you enjoyed this post and I will catch up with you guys soon!
